LACO gets big-time exposure

Kobe Bryant eat your heart out! I was driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic and couldn’t miss the huge banners on the side of a parking deck that showcased the players in the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. It was reminiscent of the movie billboards in Hollywood or the Kobe tributes that are posted near the Staples Center. It was a real breath of fresh air to see classical musicians given super-star status.

It’s a shame I didn’t have my phone camera out sooner – since the two banners that I first saw are now hidden behind the palm trees in this shot. Whoever paid for that is getting their money’s worth, since I got to stare at them for a few minutes as I was crawling along in pre-rush-hour traffic. Bravo to them for pulling out all the stops to promote the ensemble! It’s definitely A-list exposure.

The Skinny from Scarlett

Bravo to Scarlett Johansson for putting the whap to gossip mags. Aside from being one of the millions of people worldwide that are beholden to her charms, I have a newfound respect for her candor and willingness to “speak out” in a very self-effacing and forthright way. Plus, I can’t wait to see her dressed up like a super-hero.

;)

There are still some tweaks to do, but most of the personal/chit-chatty stuff from my main site has now been split off to hhaynes.com. I also have to go back and do some cleanup on TitanLineAudio.com, but that should be minimal. As a bonus, I’ve integrated hhaynes.com with Twitter, which should show tweets on my blog as well as post new posts here (that I select) to Twitter. I’m sure there will be some further customization, but I’m pretty happy with things so far.

Hotel California in 3D

I keep a wide variety of music on my BlackBerry in order to serve up different types of music on a whim. When I’m working out – it’s almost always rock-and-roll, hard-edged techno or something similarly upbeat. When I’m chilling out, it’s some atmospheric offering from any of a number of artists. I also have a smattering of my own music for contemplation/review when on the run.

This morning I decided to pop on the earphones to listen to some music while walking to the grocery store for some supplies. I decided to put on Eagles Greatest Hits Volume 1 and settled on “Hotel California” right as I hit the sidewalk. As I got further down the street, the combination of early rush-hour traffic, car horns, and series of squalling emergency vehicles added an eerie (and more than slightly ironic) tinge to the classic tune. It was quite a surreal experience, which was enhanced by the morning ‘golden hour’ lighting.

I don’t know if there’s a metaphor in this experience, or if I was just enjoying listening into the song for the first time in a long while – but I may be shuttling past “Hotel California” the next time the environ is a little ‘too close to home.’

;)
